4 X 4 Diesel
| | Model of the car: | 4 X 4 Diesel | | | General comments: | This vehicle was also bought new and is a great improvement over the 1982 model that practically rusted away. Both cars were always garaged and to date this seven year old model shows no rust while the '82 model had the headliner hanging over my ears by this time. The OEM Firestone tires were pitiful on this car with lumps and vibration that caused me to junk them in 25,000 miles with legal tread on them. The replacement Goodyear Aqua treads had failed with tread separations by 35,000 miles of use, albeit I usually travel with light loads on paved highways.
The engine has three trips to the dealer with injector pump solenoid failures. The lf. front disc brake rotor was ruined due to wearing the inner pad thru to the metal backing plate, while the same lf. outer brake pad with the wear warning alert alarm was not worn to the extent that the disc rotor was contacted. The inner pad should have the alarm on it rather than the outer pad.
The inside trim has held up well and the seats are comfortable. The torsion bar suspension on the front driving axle is excellent and the shock absorbers are still fine but I'm thinking that they should be replaced as this Suburban has 60,000 miles and most shocks are suspect after 25.000 miles | | | What things have gone wrong with the car: | Poor dealer parts supply. Poor OEM Firestone Tires.
No Diesel engine available on current models. There is an Isuzu diesel in the Chevy trusks ! ! | | | Previous car: | 1982 Suburban. 1993 Cadillac Brougham. |
