Observing that GM has a long history in Qatar, Johnson recalled that it is a history going back several decades and built on the back of the success of legendary vehicles like the Chevrolet Suburban, which have served families for generations. “We have seen our business in Qatar grow rapidly during the first quarter of 2006 – up by 93% on the same period as last year, with over 1,300 vehicles sold,†he revealed, describing it as a tremendous achievement. Setting new standards in styling, interior refinement, comfort, safety and offering a host of new features, the 2007 Tahoe and Suburban were described as simply the class leaders. “They are setting the pace for others to follow and raising the bar in the full-size SUV market and taking the category to a higher level of quality and excellence,†the official said. Johnson explained that both Tahoe and Suburban, which incorporate GM’s Active Fuel Management (AFM) technology, have more power without compromising on fuel efficiency, delivering an unparalleled driving experience. “These vehicles are clear winners in a competitive and demanding segment and our record of sales in the US reflects just that, he maintained while adding that he has no doubt that the same success will be achieved in Qatar also. The Tahoe and Suburban represent a new generation of Sport Utility Vehicles offering an unprecedented amount of new class leading features and accessories including power lift – gate, remote start, rear camera system, power articulating running boards and industry exclusive power second row fold and tumble seats. The Tahoe’s innovative features include a new, fully boxed frame, coil-over-shock front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and an all-new, premium interior system which bolsters the vehicle’s comfort, quality and capability. Wider front and rear tracks enhance handling for a more confident road feel. The 2007 Suburban is offered in LS, LT and LTZ variants, with 2WD and 4WD, in 1500 and heavy-duty 2500 series. A host of new and enhanced safety features include head curtain side air bags and standard StabiliTrak stability control system incorporating new rollover mitigation technology for a better driver experience. Standard in all the above vehicles, a new Gen IV, small-block V-8 family offers more power than comparable powertrains in previous models. These engines offer 355 gross horsepower and 504 Nm of gross torque, with AFM technology, which seamlessly switches between 8- and 4-cylinder power to save fuel. Overall, GM’s sales in the region have been rising steadily in recent years. They rose by 28% in 2005 and this strong performance continued in the first quarter of 2006.
